Exploring Shizuoka with International Students Part 7
Mishima Skywalk: Japan's Longest Suspension Bridge with Stunning Views of Mount Fuji

Mishima City, located in eastern Shizuoka Prefecture, is a charming town with historical and geographical significance. During the Edo era, it flourished as an important post town along the Tokaido, attracting many travelers and visitors. Today, Mishima boasts a prime location near renowned tourist destinations such as Mount Fuji, Hakone, and the Izu Peninsula. Additionally, it offers convenient access to Tokyo and Shinagawa Station, being just a one-hour ride away via the Shinkansen.

The city is also known as the "City of Water," as water from Mount Fuji flows through various places in the city, adding to its natural beauty and charm.

Recently, we visited Mishima Skywalk, a notable attraction in Mishima City, accompanied by two international students, Smirna Wirawanty Patandung and Roni MD Jahedul Islam. Both are Master’s students at Shizuoka University.

The Stunning Landscapes of Shizuoka seen from the Mishima Skywalk Bridge.

Mishima Skywalk is Japan's longest suspension bridge, stretching over 400 meters. From the bridge, visitors can enjoy dynamic views of Shizuoka, including the majestic Mount Fuji, Japan's tallest mountain, and Suruga Bay, the country's deepest ocean.
On the day of our visit, the weather was perfect, with a clear, cloudless sky. Mount Fuji stood in the background, its snow-capped peak adding to the stunning scenery.
"Great!" "Amazing!" the two exclaimed in awe.

Smirna shared that she could see Mount Fuji from her current residence and enjoyed admiring it every single day. Standing on the bridge, she looked delighted to take in the magnificent view of Mount Fuji.
“I can spot Mount Fuji above the colorful autumn leaves, and I can also see the ocean in the distance. This view is stunning!" she said. "I visited here once before, but it was summer, so I couldn’t see Mount Fuji with snow on its peak. I think Mount Fuji looks its best when it’s covered in snow.”

Roni mentioned his love for photographing beautiful natural landscapes. On that day, standing atop the suspension bridge, he captured numerous breathtaking views of the surrounding nature.
Roni remarked, “Mount Fuji, forests, and the bridge—this place is amazing! I was able to take so many great photos!”

Flying like a bird! The Long Zip Slide

Mishima Skywalk offers a variety of activities to enjoy while taking in the natural landscapes. To start, Smirna and Roni tried the Long Zip Slide.
This thrilling activity is one of the most popular, as it allows you to experience the view of Shizuoka’s towns and Mount Fuji from the sky, as if you’re flying like a bird! After putting on harnesses and receiving instructions in English, they were ready to head to the starting point.
Smirna said, “I’m a bit nervous!”
Roni added: “I’ve always wanted to try this activity, and today is the day!”

The staff counted, “3, 2, 1, Go!” and off they went! Their bodies soared over the treetops, suspended by the wires.

It was faster than expected, and just like birds in flight, they reached the other side in an instant. Afterward, they returned by sliding back along the cable.

Welcome back! We greeted them as they arrived, both of them smiling. Let’s hear their thoughts.
Smirna said, “It was so much fun! I got to enjoy the landscape, and it felt amazing! On my way back, I could see Mount Fuji. I’m so satisfied with this round-trip experience.”
Roni added, “It was so exciting, like a dream. Every landscape was perfect for me, and I could see Mount Fuji as well. This is an unforgettable experience.”

Sky-Blue Soft Serve Ice Cream with Fresh Mikan Juice from Shizuoka Prefecture

Visitors can enjoy not only activities but also delicious food and drinks at Mishima Skywalk. After the zip slide, Smirna tried the Skywalk Soft Serve, an original creation of Mishima Skywalk. This soft serve is made from fresh milk sourced from Ideboku, a local farm in Shizuoka, and is colored with Butterfly Pea, a blue tea inspired by the clear blue sky.

Smirna said, “It’s so yummy! I can really taste the richness of the milk.”

While Smirna was enjoying the soft serve, Roni chose fresh mikan juice. The juice is made from 100% mikan (mandarin orange) harvested in Nishiura, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, a region renowned for its high-quality mandarins.
Roni exclaimed, “It’s so goooood!”

E-Bike Trail Tour Through the Forest

The final activity they tried that day was the E-BIKE Trail Tour, where participants ride electric-assisted bicycles along a scenic trail.

Both Smirna and Roni enjoyed a smooth ride through the forest, with dappled sunlight filtering through the trees.
Smirna said, “The forest was so beautiful.”
Roni shared, “It was my first time trying an electric bicycle, but it was much easier than I expected. I found it easy to navigate up and down the trail. I want to get my own e-bike. It reminded me of the forests in my home country, Bangladesh. I really enjoyed the activity.”
With beautiful views of Mount Fuji, vibrant autumn leaves, and exciting activities, both Smirna and Roni enjoyed the rich nature at Mishima Skywalk. Thank you, Smirna and Roni, for joining us today!
