An Overview of the University

Founded in 2004, Shizuoka University of Welfare has a its basic philosophy (educational philosophy) of “live together.” Based on its two pillars of Children’s Studies, which considers the nature of “life,” and Welfare Studies, which considers the nature of “living,” the University’s mission is to explore the profoundness of life, the preciousness of human rights, and the importance of ties from an interdisciplinary perspective. The many certifications and licenses that you can obtain at the University are proof that you are embarking on this mission. Let’s learn from each other in this new stage of your life at Shizuoka University of Welfare.

The history of the University can be traced back to Shizuoka Seika Gakuen’s Shizuoka Seika Girl’s School, which was founded in 1903. The aspirations and passion for education of Shizuoka Seika Gakuen’s founder Shoichi Sugihara can be seen in the founding spirit of the school at the time: “training new personnel to respond to the times.” The times and society have changed dramatically since its founding, but that founding spirit has not changed, and Shizuoka Seika Gakuen’s educational philosophy of “Love, Independence, and Coexistence” has been passed on to Shizuoka University of Welfare.
