Pica Fuji Grinpa is a sprawling campsite nestled at the base of Mount Fuji in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It offers breathtaking views of the iconic mountain right from the site, making it a perfect spot for campers.
We visited Grinpa with Qaisar Shahzad, a Ph.D. student at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, and Smirna Wirawanty Patandung, a Master’s student at Shizuoka University.
The expansive campsite caters to all kinds of campers, from beginners to seasoned adventurers, with facilities including trailer cottages, tent sites, and cozy cottages.
Both Qaisar and Smirna are avid campers, and their excitement was palpable as we arrived.
Qaisar shared, “I often go camping in the summer, and I enjoyed a great BBQ this year.”
Smirna added, “I love camping! This year, I went to a campsite in Kawane-Honcho, Shizuoka, with my international student friends. We set up our tent by the river and had so much fun playing in the water, enjoying a BBQ, and playing games. We even listened to Japanese songs and tried guessing the names to improve our Japanese skills. It was an unforgettable experience!”
Adjacent to the Pica Fuji Grinpa campsite is Amusement Park Grinpa, which features Sylvanian Village, a theme park dedicated to Japan’s beloved Sylvanian Families toy series. Visitors can explore the Tiny Forest House, a life-sized replica of a Sylvanian family home, and even enjoy a unique camping experience in a tent-themed setting with Sylvanian Families.
At the Pica Fuji Grinpa campsite and amusement park, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including buggy car driving and cycling. One highlight is the FUJIYAMA BUGGY, located right next to the campsite, offering an exhilarating off-road buggy experience. The buggies can be driven by anyone aged 11 and above, with a thrilling course that takes full advantage of Mount Fuji's slopes.
Unfortunately, the rain on the day of our visit prevented us from enjoying these activities. However, we couldn’t resist capturing the moment with a photo in front of the FUJIYAMA BUGGY, preserving the memory of our visit.
Qaisar shared, “There were so many things I wanted to try if it had been sunny—buggy driving, mountain biking, and more.”
Smirna added wistfully, “I really wanted to ride a buggy. I bet it feels amazing!”
Though we couldn’t partake in these adventures this time, we began imagining our next visit under clear skies. Qaisar even proposed an idea: “How about drawing Mount Fuji on the back of the photo we took today?” As we envisioned the majestic mountain emerging from behind the thick clouds, we promised to return and experience it all.
Thank you, Qaisar and Smirna, for joining us and sharing this memorable day!
